HISTORY

Sarnico is an important commercial and touristy centre on the right side of Lake Iseo, where it begins to get narrower to become Fiume Oglio.
poster_navigazioneThe village, which is protected at the beginning by hills, leans softly forwards to the lake and it’s exposed. The hilly elevation and the lake breeze mitigate the climate. Large and airy squares, the lakeside and shops, on the lakeshore, give touristy vivacity to this centre, so it becomes a pleasant place where you can stay. Its geographic position and its outskirts (where there are many villas, green spaces, amusement and spectacular foreshortenings on the lake) offer tourists an ideal benchmark for holidays. The territory was already inhabited in prehistoric times in fact remains of a fortified village was discovered after an operation of drainage of the lake bottom. Remains of Roman age came to light in 1907 during the construction of Villa Faccanoni and along all the coast near Predore. But first documents go back at 862 a.C.
